FK Crvena Zvezda’s Milan Pavkov marked his first Champions League start with two goals in the 22nd and 29th minute of the game to completely shatter Liverpool in pieces.
The Merseyside reds were however, architects of their own fall. Liverpool had a 63 percent total possession in the game. Whilst also making three attempts on target and twelve off target as compared to their opponents four on target and three off.
Early in the game, Daniel Sturidgge missed a chance to fire Liverpool to the lead, while Mohamed Salah and his team mates had all efforts either saved, hit the crossbar bar or simply being wasteful.
Liverpool’s loss sees them back in struggling to qualify, where they could have simply shut the door and almost confirm finishing first place. Napoli are currently equal on point with Jurgen Klopp’s men, Paris Saint Germain are just one behind while FK Crvena Zvezda are rightly below Psg on four points.
“In the game [we lost our mojo] , but not in general,” klopp said.
“It made sense to make a few changes. A few we had to make and a few we wanted to but it is easy to say it didn’t work out in the end.”
“I don’t say it is already serious if we lose twice but we have to make sure it will not happen again otherwise it will be difficult as the next game is already an away game [at Paris Saint-Germain] .”
“The last one is a very difficult home game against Napoli. We have to make sure you cannot ask that question again. It is too early to say that is how it is.”
“We have to make sure in Paris that we do better. There were a lot of moments when we could get in control of the game and we didn’t do, we made the wrong decision.”
