New Epl season around the corner – a personalized look at the top six
The Transfer window has been shut tight for all premier League clubs with new Epl season to kick off in due time. Today we take a look at the top six clubs from the last campaign how they fared in the transfer window.
MANCHESTER CITY – GRADE B
Last season champions Manchester city, made only one major addition to their already overflowing well of talents. The citizens secured the services of Leicester winger Rihad Mahrez as they look to retain the title they earned last season. Manchester city remain best option to win the league after a squad overhaul by pep guardiola in the last two seasons. The Manchester blues have been set to kick off way back to when they ended the previous season and are favourites to lift the trophy this time.
MANCHESTER UNITED – GRADE D
Manchester united transfer could only be summarized by “frustration”. Fans and manager alike could only watch in dismay as the club failed to seal any other major transfer after deals for Fred, young diogo dalot and Lee grant. United were desperately linked to one player or the other, first Willian, Ivan perisic and then Gareth bale came along, few days before later and it was Toby alderweireld, Harry Maguire, Yeri Mina and then finally Jerome Boateng. However the club failed to seal a single deal, if ever their was an attempt to.
Jose would now have to work with what he has available and while most pundits and fans would have written them off, it might not just be the case as the red devils still have more then enough to hit you where it hurts. If the manager could get the best out of his players especially paul pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial and new signing Fred, then their may just be a slight hope the Manchester reds can challenge for the trophy.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR – GRADE ?
While most clubs managers and fans were hauling for players, totteham were simply in a world of their own as they were non existent in the transfer window.
Tottenham Hotspur didn’t even attempt to seal a single deal for a single soul, a decision which may come to hunt them should they be struck by injury. The manager Mauricio Pochettino however claims he is happy despite the lack of new signings at the club for the new season. Only time shall tell how happy he is.
LIVERPOOL – GRADE A
Jurgen klopp and Liverpool seemed like wolves on a hunt as they sealed one transfer after the other in the transfer window. Deals for Naby keita, Fabinho, xhordan shaqiri and Allison Becker ensured the Merseyside reds were literally uninvolved in the deadline day saga.
Liverpool had started building for new season way back to when they sealed a deal for Virgil van dijk mid last season. The club also agreed terms for Naby keita before the window officially opened, swooped Fabinho from Monaco just hours after the champions league finals and sealed a deal for Alison without any complacents.
The board seems to be backing the manager to return the club to glory after a rather successful campaign last time out. This time, the club will be demanding a trophy and jurgen has a squad capable enough to fight at a fore front for every trophy.
CHELSEA – GRADE B
At the start of the transfer , the London blues had more players linked with leaving the club than coming in, but did a very good job on keeping most in place for the new season. The likes of Eden hazard, Willian,Ngolo Kante and a host of others were all linked with a move away from the club.
However new boss Maurizio sarri ensured he only lost Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid for £31.5m. Chelsea sealed deals for Jorginho who was part of a deal to sign the new Manager, Kepa arrizabalaga from atletico Bilbao for £71.6m and Mateo kovacic on loan from Real Madrid.
The London blues looked set to washed down the drain but completed two quick deals for Kovacic and Kepa just a day to the deadline to bring back any hope of contending for a trophy in the new season.
ARSENAL – GRADE B
Five deals for new boss Unai Emery has left fans reeling to see the club under a new manager after 22 years with arsene wenger. The new manager done a lot with so little since arriving at the club.
Early deals for Guendouzi, Papasthapolos, Leno, Torreira and Lichtsteiner set the the manager on his way to rebuilding and reshaping his team during the pre season with fans reeling to see how he can bring the best out of Lacazette and pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The new season is soon to kick off, with mangers now focused on what they have rather than what they could have gotten. It’s definitely going to be an interesting one after Manchester city set the bars quite high last time. The season fever is back as Manchester united and Leicester city kick off the first fixture of the season at old Trafford.
